Vikings Pro Bowl RB Dalvin Cook out vs. Lions with injured shoulder

Earlier this week, Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer offered few specifics about the shoulder injury Pro Bowl running back Dalvin Cook suffered in last Sunday's loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

It's now known Cook will miss at least one game due to the setback.

The Vikings confirmed Friday that Cook has been ruled out for Sunday's matchup at the winless Detroit Lions. This puts backup Alexander Mattison in line to start and receive the bulk of the carries as the Vikings look to improve to 6-6 on the season.

Friday's update isn't surprising, as initial reports claimed Cook was dealing with a dislocated shoulder and torn labrum that would keep him out for at least two contests. It seems unlikely he'll play against the Pittsburgh Steelers next Thursday, but his status for the Dec. 20 game at the Chicago Bears is up in the air.

To Mattison's credit, he rushed for 112 yards against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 3 and went for 113 yards versus the Lions in Week 5 when Cook was sidelined earlier this fall with an ankle injury.
