Vikings RB Alexander Mattison undergoes surgery for appendicitis

The Minnesota Vikings will be without one of their running backs on Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Luckily, it's not Dalvin Cook.

According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, Alexander Mattison underwent successful surgery for appendicitis. He has been ruled out this weekend and could end up missing next weekend's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, too.

Mattison has appeared in 11 games for the Vikings this season, carrying the ball 74 times for 338 yards and one touchdown. He also has nine receptions for 61 yards.

With Mattison out, Ameer Abdullah will likely see more snaps behind Cook, who has 219 carries for 1,130 yards 13 touchdowns this season.

Mattison isn't the only player to undergo surgery for appendicitis this season. Cleveland Browns tight end Austin Hooper missed Weeks 7 and 8 while recovering from surgery on his appendix.
