Vikings Receive Brutal Injury News On RB Cam Akers
Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

Minnesota Vikings running back Cam Akers will miss the remainder of the season due to a torn Achilles, per Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk.

Akers suffered the injury during the fourth quarter of the Vikings’ Week 9 win over the Atlanta Falcons. Minnesota initially feared that Akers tore his Achilles, and unfortunately, the club’s concerns were correct. This marks the second time that Akers has torn his Achilles in three years, as he also suffered the same injury back in 2021 with the Los Angeles Rams.

The Vikings acquired Akers in a trade with the Rams back in September, sending a conditional 2026 sixth-round draft pick to Los Angeles in exchange for Akers and a 2026 conditional seventh-rounder.

Akers has played in six games since joining Minnesota, carrying the ball 38 times for 138 yards and a touchdown. He has also logged 11 catches for 70 yards.

On the season overall, he has totaled 167 yards and a couple of touchdowns on the ground while averaging a meager 3.6 yards per carry.

The 24-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Florida State, was originally selected by the Rams in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

He played in 13 games during his rookie campaign and posted decent production, rushing for 625 yards and a pair of touchdowns while averaging 4.3 yards per tote. In addition, he caught 11 passes for 123 yards and a score.

Cam Akers then sustained the Achilles injury in 2021. He bounced back by appearing in 15 contests last season, registering 786 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground while recording 4.2 yards per carry. He added 13 grabs for 117 yards in the air.

The Jackson, Ms. native ended up in Rams head coach Sean McVay’s doghouse this year, resulting in LA sending him to Minnesota.

The Vikings are 5-4 and will take on the New Orleans Saints next Sunday.
