Vikings reportedly interviewing Michigan's Jim Harbaugh for HC job

Michigan Wolverines coach Jim Harbaugh is interviewing for the Minnesota Vikings' head-coaching vacancy, according to a report from Pro Football Talk.

Harbaugh, 58, has been discussed as a potential NFL coaching candidate for weeks, but the Vikings' interview is the first tangible evidence of interest from a team. Rumors often connected Harbaugh to the Las Vegas Raiders' vacancy, but the team appears to be zeroing in on New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels for the job.

Harbaugh has been the head coach at Michigan since 2015 and has compiled a 49-22 record with the Wolverines. In 2021, Michigan earned its first spot in the College Football Playoff, but lost 34-11 to the Georgia Bulldogs in the Orange Bowl.

Prior to his time at Michigan, Harbaugh had a four-year tenure as head coach of the San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers went to three straight NFC Championship Games and one Super Bowl during Harbaugh's time with the team.

Minnesota fired Mike Zimmer in January after eight seasons. The Vikings made the playoffs three times and posted a 72-56-1 record during his tenure, but never made it to a Super Bowl.
