The Minnesota Vikings have requested permission to interview San Francisco 49ers assistant general manager RJ Gillen for their general manager opening, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The Vikings moved on from general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah in January, leading executive vice president of football operations Rob Brzezinski to take over GM responsibilities through free agency and the 2026 NFL Draft. Brzezinski is also considered a candidate for the permanent role.

Adofo-Mensah rejoined the 49ers as a senior personnel executive after previously spending 2013 through 2019 with the organization.

Gillen has been part of the 49ers organization since 2015, initially joining the scouting department as an assistant. Over time, he has worked his way through multiple roles, including pro personnel scout, director of pro personnel, and director of player personnel, before being elevated to his current position.

Last year was Gillen's first serving as assistant general manager, a title he shares with Brian Hampton.
