Vikings revise starting CB’s contract before Week 1

The Minnesota Vikings have a rivalry game against the Green Bay Packers on the docket for Week 1 this Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET during which their secondary will be tested by the Jordan Love-led Packers. The Vikings will have veteran defensive back Harrison Smith back for the game after he recently signed a new contract.

On Friday, the Vikings announced they had also revised the contract of starting cornerback Isaiah Rodgers in a deal that will add cap space to the team’s ledger going forward.

“The Vikings are revising the contract of CB Isaiah Rodgers, converting playtime incentives (up to $1.5M) to signing bonus as a nod to his status as a proven starter,” ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler wrote. “It will also create additional cap room, per sources. Rodgers, 28, started 15 games in 2025, due $5M this year.”

Rodgers was listed as a starter on the Vikings’ depth chart ahead of Sunday’s game alongside safety Smith, whose return got a candid response from Love upon hearing the news of his deal.

The Vanderbilt alumnus Rodgers helped solidify Minnesota’s secondary last season with 66 tackles, four pass break-ups, an interception he returned for 87 yards, and solid, physical play to complement Smith and the rest of the team’s defensive backs.

The two teams split their season series in 2025 with the Vikings’ defense holding Green Bay’s high-powered offense to just 26 points in two games. This season, the Vikings are hoping for better offensive performances behind new starting quarterback Kyler Murray on Sunday, which could ease the pressure on a defense that did all it could to secure a sweep last season.
