Vikings rookie continues historic start that has fans reminiscing of 1998

When you think of the Minnesota Vikings, kicker has been a very contentious position.

Over the last 30 years, kickers have ruined multiple seasons by the Vikings with misses in the playoffs. They thought they had a long-term option with Blair Walsh who set an NFL record with 10 50+ yard field goals as a rookie in 2012 but his miss from 27 yards out against the Seattle Seahawks in the wild card round of 2015.

In 1998, the Vikings were up 27-20 in the NFC Championship Game when Gary Anderson, who hadn't missed a single kick the entire season, missed a 39 yard field goal and the Vikings lost the game in overtime.

The Vikings might have found the answer to their kicker woes this past April.

Will Reichard is off to a historic start

With a 57-yard field goal in the first quarter against the Detroit Lions, rookie kicker Will Reichard is the second kicker this season who has made all of his field goal attempts this season while also having 4 or more made from 50+ yards.

So far this season, Reichard has yet to miss after going 10/10 on field goals and 17/17 on extra points. The Vikings haven't had that kind of consistency in a long time at kicker and it's been great to see.

If Reichard can keep it up, it will make a big difference in the Vikings' success this season.
