Justin Jefferson and the Minnesota Vikings suffered one of, if not the worst, defeats of the season on Sunday, losing at the hands of the Seattle Seahawks, 26-0. The Vikings were shut out for the first time this year, resulting in their fourth straight defeat.

Jefferson had a forgettable outing against the Seahawks, finishing with just two catches for four yards. The two-time All-Pro wide receiver couldn’t get it going all game long, resulting in one of the worst performances of his career.

Jefferson’s frustrations boiled over in the third quarter of the game. This was after he was slammed to the ground by Seahawks rookie safety Nick Emmanwori. The incident will now be reviewed by the NFL for potential punishment.

The Vikings were down 19-0 at the 1:28 mark of the third quarter. Jefferson caught a pass from quarterback Max Brosmer, but it resulted in a four-yard loss for Minnesota. To add insult to injury, Emmanwori body-slammed Jefferson to the ground after the tackle. Jefferson did not appreciate the rookie’s actions, which led to a heated confrontation between the pair. Players from both teams had to intervene to de-escalate the situation.

Upon review, the referee decided that Emmanwori’s tackle was excessive, resulting in an unnecessary roughness penalty on the former South Carolina Gamecocks standout. The Vikings were awarded a 15-yard penalty.

Emmanwori could now face a fine from the NFL for this incident. The league will review his penalty, which could result in a disciplinary decision. According to the rulebook, unnecessary roughness is defined as excessive or illegal force against an opponent.

For context, there were nine instances of unnecessary roughness fined in Week 12. The fines ranged from $5,722 to $23,186 for a hit on a defenseless player. Emmanwori, Seattle’s second-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, has not been fined by the NFL this season.

As for Jefferson and the Vikings, Sunday’s loss saw them drop to 4-8 on the season. Their next game will be next Sunday, Dec. 7, against the Washington Commanders.
