Vikings Sign QB Max Brosmer From Practice Squad

On the other end of the trade, the Vikings’ decision to cut the cord left an open roster spot. The Vikings are signing Max Brosmer from their practice squad, Pelissero adds. This will position the former Minnesota Golden Gophers passer to be the team’s emergency QB3 moving forward.

Unlike McCarthy, no Brosmer challenges for the Vikes’ first- or second-string QB posts are likely ahead. Kyler Murray and Carson Wentz hold those positions, and Brosmer was overmatched in his two starts last season. The Vikings have maintained faith in the 2025 UDFA, however. They kept him on their initial 53-man roster — in a four-QB room — and circled back to him after an August 31 release with a September 1 P-squad agreement.

This move will boost Brosmer’s salary past where it was in 2025, when he spent the season on Minnesota’s 53-man roster, and obviously far north of the P-squad wage level. As a player with one year of service time, Brosmer will be tied to a deal averaging just more than $1MM per year. The Vikings had previously guaranteed Brosmer $244K upon signing him last year, and he earned just less than $1MM in total during his rookie campaign — one that did not involve any P-squad stops.

Brosmer spent last year behind McCarthy and Wentz before rising to the QB2 level following Wentz’s season-ending injury. Brosmer’s two starts brought woeful stat lines, though he did complete 66.2% of his throws in Kevin O’Connell’s offense. The former New Hampshire recruit averaged just 4.6 yards per attempt and finished with a 0:4 TD-INT ratio.

The Vikings will hope to continue his development without game action being involved, though Wentz’s 2025 injury and Murray’s continued struggles on the health front could certainly create an opportunity for Brosmer to move back into the QB2 role this season.
