Viral Video Shows Chiefs-Panthers Official Get Hit Hard in the Head

The Kansas City Chiefs (10-1) narrowly escaped the Carolina Panthers (3-8) with a 30-27 win on Sunday. It took until the clock hit zero in the fourth quarter to secure the victory, thanks to a walk-off 31-yard field goal by kicker Spencer Shrader.

However, there was another kick from Shrader that caught some attention online: His first-quarter extra point attempt following a 35-yard touchdown from Patrick Mahomes to tight end Noah Gray, his first of two scores on the day.

A video circulating on social media showed one of the game officials, who was standing underneath the right upright, get hit pretty hard in the head by the ball as it contacted the end zone netting approximately 40 feet up and barreled toward the ground below.

The now-viral video was viewed over 2.3 million times in its first 24 hours on X.

Despite the unexpected bonk, the official continued to signal the successful kick and appeared uninjured on the play.

Shrader went on to have a busy day in his second game filling in for the injured Harrison Butker. The 25-year-old rookie placekicker connected on all three PATs and all three of his field goal attempts from 25, 41 and 31 yards out.

Next up for Kansas City during Thanksgiving week is a home game against the rival Las Vegas Raiders on Black Friday. The Chiefs — on only four days of rest — will look to sweep their regular season series with the Raiders for the third time in the last four seasons.
