Virginia McCaskey Has Passed Away at Age 102

McCaskey inherited the franchise from her father, George Halas, when he passed away in 1983. Although her brother, George Halas Jr., was named the heir apparent to their father, he passed away in 1979 from a heart attack. As a result, Virginia took over. 

Under McCaskey's ownership, the Bears won Super Bowl XX over the New England Patriots, securing their first Lombardi Trophy in franchise history. Despite loads of success prior to the NFL/AFL merger, the Bears finally won a title in January 1986. 

Since then, the team has been searching for direction. However, McCaskey has been beloved and carried her father's spirit along as owner of the team. Now, her children will likely take over ownership. 

102 years of life is a long time and certainly worth celebration. Without a single doubt, the team will honor her with her name all over the teams uniforms this upcoming season.
