Could two-time Super Bowl Champion Von Miller be headed home? The veteran pass rusher has sparked fresh speculation after sharing a Dallas Cowboys-themed post on social media and admitting that he would love to have a chance to play for Dallas.

Moreover, during his recent interview with Blogging the Boys host RJ Ochoa on July 8, Miller, who is now a free agent, revealed that “it would be great” to be a part of the Cowboys team, considering Dallas to be his hometown.

“I grew up here in Dallas, I’ve always had a special place in my heart for the Dallas Cowboys,” Miller said, per RJ Ochoa’s X post. “My family is here. It’d just be easy to work it out, so you never really know. Maybe the magnetic field here in Dallas will get me there. So I would love to play for the Dallas Cowboys, and it’d be amazing.”

Miller grew up in Texas, a suburb of Dallas, and attended Texas A&M University before being drafted as a first-round pick (No. 2) in the 2011 NFL draft by the Denver Broncos.

He started all 142 games played and recorded 110.5 sacks, 509 tackles (390 solo), and 21 passes defended across his 10-year stint with Broncos.

Miller also recently posted a picture of himself wearing a Cowboys uniform on his Instagram story on July 8 with no caption, drawing speculations regarding him joining the Cowboys.

Joseph Hoyt of the Dallas Morning News posted on X, stating that he had no news to report regarding the Cowboys’ potential signing of Miller. But he did note a few things that made Dallas seem like an ideal spot for Miller.

“Couple things worth noting: Von Miller is from DeSoto, just south of Dallas,” Hoyt reported via X post. “He and Cowboys DC Christian Parker did cross paths in Denver. Cowboys could use more at OLB. Cowboys’ roster is full.”

Defensive coordinator Christian Parker served as the defensive backs coach for the Broncos from 2021 to 2023. Hoyt believes that the Cowboys could add a pass rusher familiar with Parker’s scheme to fit in with the defensive unit before the regular season starts.

Though the roster limit is full, Hoyt believes that Miller could be a valuable veteran addition at outside linebacker to the Cowboys, who have less proven depth in that position.

Von Miller’s Cowboys fit comes with plenty of questions

Mauricio Rodriguez of A to Z Sports questioned Miller’s contribution to the Cowboys team, as he had only three starts during his last three seasons.

“Is Von Miller still good?” Rodriguez asked in his July 9 article. “Miller to the Cowboys would make sense for several reasons. The truth is, the defense has a largely unproven edge rusher group, with Rashan Gary being the only proven veteran in the room.”

With fewer proven and young players like Donovan Ezeiruaku and rookie Malachi Lawrence behind Gary, adding an elite sack leader like Miller (138.5 sacks across 14 years) could prove to be a low-risk move that could boost the edge rusher depth.

However, Rodriguez concluded that he “wouldn’t bet on it”. He pointed out that Von Miller has had just one Pro Bowl appearance since 2019.

Even if the Cowboys did sign him, they wouldn’t get the impactful playmaker who earned six consecutive Pro Bowl nods in eight years at his prime.
