Warriors' Draymond Green compares 49ers' Brock Purdy to Tom Brady

Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green seems to be a member of the fan club for San Francisco 49ers rookie quarterback Brock Purdy.

"And to watch what Brock Purdy is doing as 'Mr. Irrelevant,' it is so impressive," Green said during the "Thursday Night Football" broadcast hosted by Hannah Storm and Andrea Kremer, according to Gabe Fernandez of SF Gate. "I was watching the game last week, and I said to some of my friends, 'Hey fellas, do y'all think we're watching the next Tom Brady — you know, Tom Brady being a sixth-round pick — are we watching the next Tom Brady?' We don't quite know that yet, but to see what this guy is doing is absolutely amazing." 

Green was referring to how Purdy, who has the "Mr. Irrelevant" nickname for being the final pick of the 2022 NFL Draft, outplayed Brady during the 35-7 blowout win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last Sunday. Purdy completed 16-of-21 passes for 185 yards and two touchdowns in that victory, and he then went 17-of-26 for 217 yards with two scores and no interceptions in Thursday's 21-13 win over the Seattle Seahawks that clinched the NFC West title for San Francisco. 

Purdy isn't yet anywhere close to becoming a seven-time Super Bowl champion, but one can't blame 49ers fans for feeling excited after watching the 22-year-old in action since he replaced the injured Jimmy Garoppolo in Week 13. The first-year pro has completed 62-of-93 total pass attempts for 678 yards with six touchdowns and two picks, and he's now played well in three consecutive victories. 

Purdy will look to continue his hot streak when the 10-4 49ers host the Washington Commanders on Christmas Eve. 7-5-1 Washington faces the 7-5-1 New York Giants this Sunday night.
