Washington Commanders’ $68 Million Star Skips Voluntary OTA

McLaurin, 29, is entering the final year of his three-year deal worth $68.3 million, and reportedly had previously been a full participant in Washington’s offseason program.

These workouts are completely voluntary, so McLaurin won’t face any fines or other punishment from the Commanders. However, Washington ramps up to Phase III of its offseason program next week, which could be a litmus test of whether McLaurin’s absence were for personal reasons, or if he is looking to make a statement about his current contract and looking for a new deal.

Washington Commanders Continue to Build Around Jayden Daniels

McLaurin is among the more prolific yet underrated receivers across the sport, and he has the chance to be even more productive this season, after the Commanders traded for former San Francisco 49ers superstar Deebo Samuel.

Last season, McLaurin caught 82 passes for 1,096 yards and a career-high 13 touchdowns as a focal point of the Commanders’ offense.

After adding Samuel, and bolstering the offensive line in front of Daniels, Washington could be setting up for the passing game to be both more balanced and explosive than it has been in the past, aiming to maximize the Commanders’ chances of competing with Daniels on his rookie contract.
