The Washington Commanders are utilizing their past in looking towards the future. On Wednesday, the franchise unveiled “Super Bowl Era” throwback uniforms that they’ll wear in three games this season.
The get-up is reminiscent of their Washington Redskins uniforms, which the team donned until their recent name change. According to the team, “(the uniforms) pay homage to the franchise’s most successful period, on the 93rd anniversary of the team’s inception.” Check them out below, shared to X (formerly known as Twitter) by the franchise via an awesome hype video.

As the team relayed, Washington will rock these uniforms three times in 2025 — Week 9 against the Seattle Seahawks, Week 13 against the Denver Broncos and in their Week 17 Christmas Day showdown with the Dallas Cowboys. Fans can’t wait to see how Jayden Daniels looks in these threads.
“We are excited to celebrate Washington’s rich history with these iconic, Super Bowl Era uniforms this season,” Commanders Team President Mark Clouse said via press release. “Ever since Josh Harris and our ownership group acquired the team back in 2023, they’ve placed great value in finding ways to connect the past and present and pay homage to those that made the Burgundy & Gold what it is today.”
Moreover, the Commanders noted that the uniforms as a whole draws inspiration from the ones Washington wore during all three of the franchise’s Super Bowl wins, which came in 1982, 1987 and 1991. Of course, their infamous logo is missing, even though some fans have yearned for it to return over the past couple of seasons.
“These uniforms honor the most successful era of our franchise — one that reflects a culture of excellence and encompasses many historical moments and special memories amongst our fanbase,” Clouse added. “We look forward to bringing that nostalgic feeling back to fans, while incorporating a modern feel for our next generation of fans.”
In addition to the uniforms, Washington will release gear other exclusive merchandise pertaining towards their “Super Bowl Era” uniforms on a rolling basis. There weren’t many specifics, but one can expect a myriad of clothing items in a similar vein to the threads above.
The one downside might be Washington waiting until Week 9 to unveil these uniforms. Fans want to see them as soon as possible. It would’ve been sweet if they rocked them in Week 1, at home against the New York Giants in one of the NFL’s oldest rivalries.
All told, the uniforms are the latest addition to the hype train for the Commanders entering 2025. Whether they’re able to replicate their success from last season remains to be seen, but they’ll look good at least.
