Washington Commanders WR Could Be On Chopping Block
Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

The Washington Commanders are under new management in 2024. They cleaned house from top to bottom, as the new ownership brought in all of their own people this offseason. Taking over the front office is Adam Peters. On the sidelines, it is Dan Quinn who was hired as head coach.

Washington has missed the postseason in four straight years and hasn’t had back-to-back playoff trips since the 1990-1992 season. Peters and Quinn are hoping to put an end to the underwhelming play, and it starts with rebuilding the roster.

The Washington Commanders started that process last season, trading away several veterans ahead of the deadline. It continues this offseason, as Peters and Quinn hope that the No. 2 overall pick, quarterback Jayden Daniels out of LSU, can become the face of the franchise.

Daniels is entering a pretty solid situation when it comes to the supporting cast around him. Normally players selected that high are entering messes. While the Commanders didn’t win much in 2023, there is some talent to work with around him.

Terry McLaurin and Jahan Dotson are a solid wide receiver duo. Zach Ertz is a reliable, veteran tight end. Out of the backfield, the team has a great one-two punch with free agent addition Austin Ekeler and holdover Brian Robinson Jr.

However, whenever a new regime is in place, players from the previous one have to be wary of their standing. That is the case with wide receiver Dyami Brown, who David Kenyon of Bleacher Report believes is the best player the Washington Commanders could still release this offseason.

“Similar to a few others, Washington is pretty thin on recognizable players who even can be entertained here. The roster needs all the talent it can get. Dyami Brown has played a minor role on offense in his three seasons with the franchise and mostly contributed on special teams in 2023,” Kenyon wrote.

A third-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Brown hasn’t done much for the Commanders in three seasons. It is hard to envision that changing in 2024 as he looks to be the No. 4 receiver, at best, heading into offseason workouts.

With the team using a third-round pick on wide receiver Luke McCaffrey in the 2024 NFL Draft. Washington also signed veteran Olamide Zaccheus in free agency, which could put Brown’s roster spot in peril.
