The Washington Football Team elevated wide receiver Antonio Gandy-Golden from the practice squad for Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints.

Washington will be without at least two of its wide receivers. Rookie wideout Dyami Brown and Cam Sims have been ruled out for Sunday’s game. Brown has a knee injury and Sims is hampered by a hamstring.

Both Brown and Sims were injured in last week’s win over the Atlanta Falcons. Neither player practiced this week.

A third wide receiver, Curtis Samuel, is listed as questionable against the Saints. Samuel is nursing a groin injury. He missed the first three games of the season before returning last week, but wasn’t a full participant in practice this week.

Gandy-Golden was a fourth-round pick of Washington’s in 2020. He was limited to six games as a rookie due to a hamstring injury. He was waived during final cuts in August before this season. But was signed to the practice squad after clearing waivers.

Sunday will be his first game suited up this season. Washington is thin at wide receiver. Terry McLaurin, Adam Humphries, rookie Dax Milne and kick returner DeAndre Carter were the only healthy wideouts on the 53-man roster heading into this week.

Gandy-Golden is a tall option at 6-foot-4 with soft hands. This could be an opportunity for him to prove he can contribute in the passing game and on special teams.
