The San Francisco 49ers have already begun their transition to rookie quarterback Trey Lance.
Lance entered Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions with a little more than five minutes remaining in the first quarter. He hit wide receiver Trent Sherfield for a five-yard touchdown pass on a first and goal to give the Niners a 7-0 lead.

The 49ers named Jimmy Garoppolo their starting quarterback this season, but head coach Kyle Shanahan admitted he would use Lance in certain situations.
It's unclear how much we'll see Lance this season. It could change week to week, especially if Garoppolo struggles.
San Francisco drafted Lance third overall this offseason intending to make him the team's quarterback of the future. If he doesn't take over as the starter this year, he could very well be QB1 during the 2022 season.
