Watch: 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk burns Bucs defense for 76-yard TD

San Francisco 49ers receiver Brandon Aiyuk has scored a touchdown in just two games this season, but the team won both games in which he found the end zone.

So it’s presumably a good omen that Aiyuk scored on Sunday, torching the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense for a 76-yard touchdown bomb early in the third quarter that gave the 49ers a 20-7 lead.

At time of publication, Aiyuk had five receptions for a career-high 156 yards and the score. It’s Aiyuk’s fourth 100-yard game of the year, and it topped his previous career best of 148 yards which he recorded in a 35-16 win over the Arizona Cardinals in Week 4.

It’s the longest reception of Aiyuk’s career and just his second reception of 50 yards or more. Aiyuk is the third receiver in the NFL this season with a reception longer than 75 yards, joining Miami’s Tyreek Hill and Green Bay’s Christian Watson.

It’s also the longest pass play of Brock Purdy’s career, topping the 74-yarder he has against the Seattle Seahawks in mid-January in the playoffs. Purdy has now thrown a touchdown of 65 yards or longer in back-to-back weeks, and he moved into a tie for the most passes of 40 yards or more this season (seven).
