It has been a long road back to the football field for Washington Football Team quarterback Alex Smith.
The veteran suffered a life-threatening injury leg injury in November 2018 and missed the entire 2019 season while rehabbing before making a return in 2020.
Smith replaced Kyle Allen, who reportedly dislocated his ankle and suffered a small fracture, in the first quarter of Sunday's game against the New York Giants. The 36-year-old tossed his first touchdown pass of the season during the fourth quarter, and it was his first TD pass since 2018.

Smith found wide receiver Terry McLaurin over the middle for the 68-yard score. The former Ohio State star evaded several defenders en route to the end zone.
If Allen misses an extended period of time, Smith likely will be Washington's starting quarterback moving forward. However, there's always the possibility the team returns to Dwayne Haskins, who was benched after Week 4.
