Even though the Kansas City Chiefs offense is less explosive than it's been in the past, head coach Andy Reid still has plenty of tricks up his sleeve.
Against the New England Patriots, quarterback Patrick Mahomes lined up as a fullback, and running back Jerick McKinnon took the direct snap. McKinnon threw a shovel pass to rookie wide receiver Rashee Rice, who scored a four-yard TD, giving Kansas City a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter.

Kansas City's offense isn't terrible, but it's not elite. Entering Week 15, the Chiefs rank 11th in points per game (22.5). They also lead the league in dropped passes (34), per Pro Football Reference. The Chiefs will need more clever play designs from Reid to reignite the offense.
The Chiefs (8-5) have lost three of their last four games and need a win to regain momentum. If they beat the Patriots (3-10), The New York Times simulator gives them an 82 percent chance to host a wild-card game.
