Watch: Chiefs' 'tush push' field-goal fake fails miserably vs. Broncos

The "tush push" or "brotherly shove" has become a hot topic of conversation in the NFL, but the Kansas City Chiefs tried a new, out-of-the-box approach to the play on "Thursday Night Football."

On 4th-and-2 from the Broncos' 6-yard line with 8:10 left, the Chiefs attempted a fake field goal tush push but came up woefully short.

It was a curious decision, especially since the Chiefs turned down three points to run the trick play. The Chiefs ultimately bounced back, scoring a touchdown on their next drive, but they could've had a larger lead at halftime had they simply taken the points.

The Philadelphia Eagles have made the controversial play famous because they've perfected it. In 2022, the Eagles converted the play successfully in 37 of 41 tries, and the rate has stayed steady in 2023. The Eagles are so good at it that other teams have even called for it to be banned.

The play is legal for now. However, the NFL and NFLPA plan to study injury data related to the play this offseason, meaning change could be on the horizon.
