The New Orleans Saints and Chicago Bears were in the midst of a heated NFC matchup during NFL Week 8 on Sunday. Both teams needed a win to keep pace in their respective divisions. Just don’t tell that to Bears wide receiver Javon Wims.
With his Bears tied at 13 midway through the third quarter, Wims got into it with Saints defensive back Chauncey Gardner-Johnson. Check out the wide receiver throwing multiple punches, landing each one on Gardner-Johnson’s helmet before a brawl broke out.

It’s hard to see exactly what was going on here. As you might notice, Wims ran several yards to confront his counterpart before landing a couple blows. Something had to happen earlier in the game between the two former SEC rivals.
As you might imagine, Wims was ejected from the game. He’s also likely to face a suspension and a hefty fine from the NFL.
The Bears receiver and Gardner-Johnson were rivals in college ball with the former playing for Georgia and the latter suiting up for Florida. Perhaps that played a role in this melee.
Coincidentally, the two top-10 teams will do battle on the college football gridiron this coming weekend. It seems Wims was just getting rivalry week started.
For now, the Bears might be without one of their receivers over the short-term.
As for Gardner-Johnson, this comes after he got into a fight with teammate Michael Thomas during practice earlier in the season. Crazy times in New Orleans.
