Watch: Kaden Wetjen takes Drew Allar pass 74 yards

Steel City Underground presents Plays of the Game: highlighting the biggest moments and game-changing plays from the Pittsburgh Steelers’ latest matchup.

One play changed the complexion of the Steelers’ offense Thursday night, but the entire series offered an encouraging glimpse at two of Pittsburgh’s young players.

With the Steelers taking over at their own 20-yard line, the drive opened quietly. Kaleb Johnson carried twice for only three total yards, leaving Pittsburgh facing third-and-seven from its own 23.

That’s when Drew Allar and Kaden Wetjen connected for the biggest play of the game.

From the shotgun, Allar found Wetjen over the middle, and the rookie receiver turned the completion into a 74-yard gain all the way to the Green Bay three-yard line.

The explosive play immediately flipped the field and put Pittsburgh in position to take the lead.

After an incomplete pass on first-and-goal, Allar finished the drive himself. On second-and-goal from the three, the quarterback kept the ball and ran around the right side for the touchdown.

The five-play, 80-yard possession took just 2:03 off the clock and gave the Steelers a 14-9 advantage.

While Wetjen’s 74-yard catch provided the highlight, the sequence was an impressive one for Allar. Facing third-and-long deep in his own territory, the rookie quarterback delivered the biggest throw of the drive and then capped it off with his legs near the goal line.

It was exactly the type of series Pittsburgh wanted to see from its young quarterback and one of the biggest offensive moments of the Steelers’ 28-9 preseason victory over Green Bay.
