Watch: Lions fans packed Ford Field for NFC title game, which is not being played there

Detroit Lions fans packed Ford Field on Sunday to watch the NFC Championship game against the San Francisco 49ers. They did so even though the game is being played at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California, which is approximately 2,424 miles away.

Lions fans were there for a massive watch party for their team's first NFC Championship game appearance since the 1991 season.

Have a look at the scene as the Lions jumped out to a big lead in the first half.

The Lions entered the day as one of four NFL franchises — along with the Cleveland Browns, Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans — to have never appeared in a Super Bowl.

Prior to this season it had been more than three decades since they even won a single playoff game. Despite that lack of championship success, they have maintained a loyal fan base through a lot of incredibly lean and bad years.

Now that the team is finally worthy of their support and one of the best in the NFL, the city is going crazy in support of them. Sunday's game even prompted general managers to temporarily halt third shift production at their Flint, Michigan plant so workers could watch the entirety of the game.
