Following every NFL game in 2025, Steel City Underground parses the best plays from the Pittsburgh Steelers to highlight for Steelers Nation fans to rewatch, complete with what led up to the big play(s).

Although the Pittsburgh Steelers lost on the road to the Chicago Bears in Week 12 of the 2025 NFL regular season, 28-31, a 55-yard run gave the Steelers a 21-14 lead in the second quarter of the game.

To cap off a 7-play, 80-yard drive by the Steelers offense, they needed a big chunk play to pull ahead of the Bears. With 1:32 left in the second quarter, on 4th & 1 at the PIT 44, Pittsburgh lined up and Zach Frazier snapped the ball directly to Connor Heyward instead of to quarterback Mason Rudolph. Anticipating a push, the Bears defense bit, but Heyward had given the ball to running back Kenneth Gainwell.

Gainwell, who has proven his worth this season, carried the ball around the right end and streaked down the field. At the end of the play, it appeared Gainwell had broken the plane of the goal line for a touchdown. Replay showed Gainwell out of bounds short of crossing into the end zone.

On the next play, RB Jaylen Warren was able to slam the ball into the end zone. The defensive offsides penalty was declined. Chris Boswell successfully converted the PAT attempt.

The Bears scored a field goal on the next drive to move the score to 21-17 at the half.

Gainwell’s stats in the game:

  • 10 carries, 92 yards; 6 catches, 30 yards

Warren’s stats in the game:

  • 18 carries, 68 yards, 1 rushing touchdown
