The Los Angeles Rams emboldened Puka Nacua to be their leading receiver after parting ways with Cooper Kupp this past offseason and he’s answered the bell.

Nacua’s become Matthew Stafford’s most trusted target in head coach Sean McVay’s offense and the rising superstar is off to another torrid start. Entering the Week 6 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens, Nacua led the NFL in several receiving categories and was set up for another big afternoon.

Unfortunately, Nacua did not see any targets in the first quarter and didn’t record his first reception until the second quarter. Los Angeles’ offense surprisingly struggled against a depleted Baltimore defense, causing some frustration among the players.

Nacua was mic’d up for the game and he was caught expressing his frustrations with the team’s red zone struggles, via NFL:

In the video, Nacua demonstrably yells on the sidelines and calls for his teammates to execute better. Nacua explains that after they get into the red zone that they need to be scoring touchdowns and that they can’t settle for field goals anymore.

Nacua also expresses that he knows the team is better than their performance up to that point and emphasizes that they need to earn the earn to celebrate and dance after a touchdown.

This has been a theme all year as the Rams have no problems moving the ball down the field but often stall out in the red zone. They have scored a touchdown on just 50% of their red zone drives, which ranks 24th in the league.

Kicking field goals hasn’t even been a guarantee as Joshua Karty has been off the mark. Karty missed a field chip-shot field goal against the Baltimore, exacerbating Nacua’s point that the Rams need to improve in the red zone.

The scoring woes didn’t improve much, but Los Angeles’ offense benefitted from the defense making critical stands against Baltimore when they threatened to score.

The Rams took home a 17-3 win, but Nacua suffered an ankle injury on a red zone target. L.A. is listing him as day-to-day, but with the bye week coming in Week 8 it might be a good idea to rest him in Week 7.

Puka Nacua ‘on the same page’ as Matthew Stafford

Throughout his career, Matthew Stafford has always honed in on one target in the passing game and the past few years that’s been Puka Nacua. Nacua attributes his connection with Stafford to being on the same page as the quarterback.
