Watch: Steelers' Chris Boswell kicks 53-yard FG to cap off bonkers overtime

It is only Week 1 but the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cincinnati Bengals played what might already be the most insane game of the 2022 NFL season.

If nothing else, it is going to be difficult to top it.

The Steelers were 23-20 winners thanks to a Chris Boswell game-winning 53-yard field goal in overtime just as time expired, narrowly avoiding what would have been an opening week tie.

The biggest reason the Steelers were in a position to win here: With the Bengals on the edge of field goal range, Joe Burrow was sacked, fumbled the ball, and watched it get recovered by the Bengals to advance it forward to the 38-yard-line.

But because of the "Holy Roller" rule, the ball had to be spotted back at midfield for fourth down, resulting in a Bengals punt.

That was crazy enough. But many other insane things happened beforehand to put the two teams in that position.

For starters, the Bengals had an abysmal day on offense, turning the football over five times (including a pick-six by Minkah Fitzpatrick early in the game) and allowing Joe Burrow to get sacked six times. But because the Steelers' offense was completely inept in its own right, they were still in it.

The Bengals were also in a position to win the game in regulation with an extra point after Ja'Marr Chase scored a touchdown on fourth down. But a bad snap resulted in Evan McPherson's kick being blocked by Fitzpatrick.

In overtime, the Bengals had ANOTHER chance to win it with a chip shot field goal from McPherson, but another bad snap resulted in him hooking his kick left badly.

On the Steelers' ensuing possession, Boswell had a chance to win it with a 56-yard field by doinked it off the upright.

He made his second attempt count.
