Watch: Washington Football Team's Terry McLaurin might have catch of the year in Week 1

In only his third season out of Ohio State, McLaurin is emerging as one of the NFL’s premier wideouts, and with this play, you can see why.

The precision of McLaurin’s route-running allows him to beat the initial press coverage. His body control and balance is obvious not only on the catch itself, but also in how he maintains his balance while continuing to explode downfield.

Washington QB Taylor Heinicke made a decent throw, yet it wouldn’t have been caught if McLaurin didn’t do a contortionist routine and reach back to haul it in.

This WFT-Chargers showdown was one of the toughest season-opening matchups to peg, as both franchises seem to be on the precipice of something special. Unfortunately, Washington’s starting signal-caller, Ryan Fitzpatrick, left with a hip injury earlier, which pressed Heinicke into duty.

We’ll see if the Football Team can find more stability under center in the coming weeks as Fitzpatrick’s status becomes clearer. If they can, they should be viewed as favorites in the NFC East, and McLaurin should only benefit.
