We Just Want a Winner
Regardless of who Stephen Ross and Jon-Eric Sullivan choose as our next head coach, the hope is that the combination of the General Manager and the head coach can produce wins.
As fans of the Miami Dolphins who have not witnessed a playoff win in 25 years, going on 26 years, that is all we really want.
Jeff Hafley, the defensive coordinator of the Green Bay Packers, has emerged as the frontrunner for the head coaching job.
And my personal take on that is, why not?
Hafley knows Sullivan well, and the two men have a great connection from their Green Bay roots.
That is a good thing.
The fact that both the head coach and General Manager can start in unison, in both timing and vision, is paramount to this new restart of the franchise.
I also hear that many fans are upset that the Dolphins didn’t land a candidate with prior NFL head coaching experience, such as John Harbaugh, Mike McCarthy, or Kevin Stefanski.
Seriously?
It is delusional to think the Miami Dolphins’ job is an attractive one, given the salary-cap hell left behind by Chris Grier and compounded by Mike McDaniel’s urging to award Tua Tagovailoa an undeserved contract.
And with no franchise quarterback on the roster.
And with no chance of getting one in the upcoming 2026 draft, barring an unexpected miracle.
So it is logical that the head coaching prospects who would consider the position in Miami would be first-time NFL head coaches.
And Hafley, in combination with Sullivan, is a promising duo that finally reflects the fresh start that we have been wanting.
It will certainly take time to dig out of the mess that they inherit, but it is a start.
All fans want is a winner, and Jon-Eric Sullivan said it best when asked what his goals were as General Manager, and he simply said, “Win.”
Let’s just hope that Jeff Hafley doesn’t have any better offer from another coach-needy team.
