The fantasy playoffs are imminent, which means it’s time to cut the dead weight. These players may have been successful in the past, but at this point, they all need to go.
Jonathon Brooks (RB) Carolina Panthers
The Panthers were widely criticized after the draft for using a second-round pick (46th overall) on the former Texas running back. Brooks suffered a knee injury in college that kept him out most of the 2024 season. Since making his NFL debut in Week 12, he’s run for just 25 yards on eight carries, earning a total of 7.8 fantasy points.
To be fair, Brooks did contribute as a receiver with three catches for 23 yards against Tampa Bay last week, but that's not enough to qualify him as a sleeper or a handcuff to Chuba Hubbard, the NFL’s sixth-leading rusher.
Hubbard signed a four-year, $32M extension with Carolina in November and the team seems intent on making him earn it.
Brooks ran for 1,479 yards with the Longhorns in 2023 and will surely see better days, but with the exception of dynasty leagues he holds no fantasy value in 2024.
Kirk Cousins (QB) Atlanta Falcons
In actual football, Cousins has made the playoffs four times in 12 seasons. In fantasy football, he shouldn’t get a sniff of postseason play. The 36-year-old quarterback had an abysmal game against the Chargers last week, throwing four interceptions including a pick-six in a 17-13 home loss.

He also failed to throw a touchdown for the third straight week while the Falcons have lost three straight games. Over that span, Cousins is averaging 7.7 fantasy points per contest, well below the 19.3 points he averaged last season before missing the Vikings’ final nine games with a torn Achilles.
Fantasy managers would be better off rolling the dice with a quarterback like Tennessee’s Will Levis, who’s averaged 17.2 fantasy points over his past four games and this week faces a Jacksonville defense allowing the most fantasy points per game (22.58) to opposing quarterbacks.
Gus Edwards (RB) Los Angeles Chargers
So much for Edwards cashing in while J.K. Dobbins sits on the I.R. Edwards did lead the Chargers with six carries for 32 yards in Week 13, but that’s hardly enough to warrant a spot on any fantasy team.
Then again, Kimani Vidal’s four carries or Hassan Haskins lone attempt won’t help either. Altogether, the three accounted for 52 yards against the Falcons and a mere 4.3 fantasy points. Unlike the first four games of the season, Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert has thrown for 200 yards or more in six of the team’s last eight games.
If L.A. makes the playoffs, they’ll do it with Herbert’s arm. Edwards may stumble into a goal line carry or two but like all Chargers running backs, holds little fantasy value, even with Dobbins on the shelf.
