It’s crazy to think about how close we are to the halfway point of the NFL season. I’ll continue to bring you players weekly on the offensive and defensive side of the ball, whom you can target on the Week 8 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire! I’ll give you two players at each of the offensive positions and three IDP options.
NOTE: I’ll only recommend players that have less than 50% ownership across the major redraft fantasy football platforms (Yahoo Fantasy, ESPN, NFL.com Fantasy).
QB#1 Michael Penix Jr, Atlanta Falcons: I know this one will sound very much like a boom/bust target, but I believe with the offensive weapons he has at his disposal, you’ll get solid backup QB play with weekly QB1 upside based on matchups (similar to my #2 quarterback).
Joe Flacco shines in battle for the ages vs. Aaron Rodgers, Steelers: ‘This is what we do it for'” />
QB#2 Joe Flacco, Cincinnati Bengals: This is purely until Burrow gets back, but Joe’s proven with elite pass catchers; he can still be extremely fantasy relevant as a backup with QB1 upside, depending on the matchups.
RB#1 Kyle Monangai, Chicago Bears: I know they used both running backs well in a fairly straightforward win against a middling Saints team. Monangai is a stash running back who should continue to see an increase in usage as the season goes on.
RB#2 Bam Knight, Arizona Cardinals: Their top two runners go down for injury, and all of a sudden, they turned to Knight as their lead back. I know they are evaluating him for a concussion, but he should still be heavily involved as a top back when he returns.
Kendrick Bourne, Mr. Dependable?” />
WR#1 Kendrick Bourne, San Francisco 49ers: They’re decimated with injuries, and Bourne has stepped in to be a veteran presence but also a fantasy-relevant depth piece that can help you for (most likely) the rest of the season.
WR#2 Kayshon Boutte, New England Patriots: I know he’s been up and down in terms of target share and production, but the last two weeks have been solid production-wise. If he’s unavailable, I’d be perfectly fine targeting either of Denver’s young pass-catchers in Marvin Mims or Troy Franklin.
TE#1 Theo Johnson, New York Giants: Still such low ownership for a player that just keeps showing why he needs to be rostered. He’s been targeted at least 4-7 times each of the last four weeks, he’s one of their top options in the passing game, and even if they trade for a wideout at the deadline, he has a role to play in this offense.
TE#2 AJ Barner, Seattle Seahawks: He’s not getting as consistently targeted, but it’s improved as he’s proven to be their best pass option at the tight end position.
NOTE: Oronde Gadsden, Los Angeles Chargers, is a tight end that must be rostered in 100% of leagues. Justin Herbert is a huge fan, and those Jim Harbaugh offenses love athletic tight ends they can target. Also, Terrence Ferguson from the Rams should keep seeing more attention and needs to be rostered, but more so in a dynasty format than season-long.
IDP#1 Bryce Huff, DE San Francisco 49ers: With the injuries they’ve faced, Huff will continue to see a heavy amount of usage and gives you sack upside on a weekly basis, PLUS they have a fairly easy schedule the rest of the season.
IDP#2 Barrett Carter, LB Cincinnati Bengals: He’s getting more usage as the season continues and is showing the sideline-to-sideline skill he demonstrated in college. He’s getting you tackle and assist value, but that’s really about it at the present time.
IDP#3 Geno Stone, SAF Cincinnati Bengals: Their free safety and a player that is a sure tackler with some potential for a TFL or interception from time to time (but not something I’d count on). He’s a guy I’d definitely be considering as a trusted weekly starter, but is more of a strong depth piece with flexible upside.
