Week 8 saw the New York Giants heart and soul suffer an injury, Cam Skattebo. His backup, Tyrone Tracy Jr, is the top waiver wire target this week, but past him at running back, there are still some long-term stashes. Playoff runs for NFL teams and fantasy teams are in full swing, so here’s a look at the top waiver wire pickups ahead of Week 9.
Tracy had over 1,000 yards from scrimmage last year as the Giants lone starter. With Cam Skattebo on the sideline for the foreseeable future, Tracy should slot back into the same usage. This usage made him a viable fantasy starter for the majority of the 2024 season.
Tracy is rostered in 35% of leagues on Sleeper.
Michael Carter played 37% of the snaps the last time the Arizona Cardinals played. Now, he’s been moved back to the practice squad. Part of that could be an expected return from Trey Benson, but it also could be a signal of improved trust in Bam Knight. They play the Dallas Cowboys this week, and it looks like Bam Knight could be the starter against one of the worst rushing defenses in the NFL.
Knight is rostered in 28% of leagues on Sleeper.
Watson’s return from injury is a miracle of medicine. He tore his ACL late in the year in 2024 and returned on a pitch count in Week 8. As his usage ramps up, he’s a high volatility option on a solid offense. Most won’t want to start Watson in Week 9, but he gets better options for receivers in Week 10 and 11.
Watson is rostered in 15% of leagues on Sleeper.
The major complaint with Alec Pierce in fantasy is that he’s just a deep threat. But in 2025, he’s averaging more targets per game than in 2024, and his ADOT is still through the roof. The Pittsburgh Steelers defense has struggled against receivers all year, and it wouldn’t surprise anyone if Pierce has a big game in Week 9.
It’s another plus matchup for the Steelers duo (trio if we include Darnell Washington). All three were top-20 tight ends against Cincinnati, but all three were useless against Green Bay. The Colts pass rush is still solid, but not nearly as imposing as the Packers were in Week 8. Freiermuth and Smith are both worth a look as a one-week tight end streaming option. Washington is a desperation play.
With Mike Gesicki on IR, Fant was expected to have a higher workload. Instead, he’s stayed steady at three or four targets a game. He’s unlikely to have a week-winning explosion, but he can give a solid floor for a streaming option.
With Cole Kmet out Colston Loveland has gone from a part-time player to an instrumental part of the offense. The Ravens game was a strange one all around, but nothing makes offenses look better than playing the Cincinatti Bengals. Loveland has a great opportunity this week, and could show enough to never give the job back to Kmet.
Another rookie looking for the post-bye rookie bump, Arroyo is an athletic freak who just needs more opportunities. The Seahawks are looking for receiving weapons outside of Jason Smith-Njigba and Cooper Kupp, and more Arroyo could be the right answer.
