The Houston Texans didn't do a good enough job protecting their star quarterback, CJ Stroud, last season. Their offensive line failed the team in multiple ways, and there are still a lot of questions surrounding that group heading into the 2025 season. However, the team is ensuring that Stroud is at 100% by training camp.
Head coach DeMeco Ryans shared where things stand with Stroud and why his reps have been limited in OTAs.
#Texans coach DeMeco Ryans on QB CJ Stroud’s limited reps in the spring: “There's no concerns with C.J. It's just general soreness. We're taking extra precaution with him, but he'll be good to go. No concerns on my end there.”

To kick off his presser, Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans set the record straight on why Stroud has been limited to start OTAs.
"I know everyone is going to ask about CJ not throwing again. There are no concerns with CJ, just general soreness, and we are taking some extra precautions with him but he will be good to go no concerns on my end there."
- Texans Head Coach DeMeco Ryans
While this is probably what most people assumed, it's good to see Ryans get ahead of the eight ball here. Instead of letting fans sit in the "what ifs," they gave a concrete answer and reason for Stroud being limited to start OTAs. The big thing to also remember is that OTAs are not training camp; it's still only June. A player missing a practice session in June is not a big deal and should not spark any worry at this time.
Come training camp, the biggest thing to watch will still be the Texans' offensive line. They took a different approach than most would have to try to improve the unit this offseason. If they end up being right, they will look like geniuses, but if their offensive line once again derails their chances of taking that next leap, the team's decision makers will have to answer for it.
