The 2025 season isn't going to be like most during the Patrick Mahomes era.

For the first time in Mahomes' career, the Kansas City Chiefs have an 0-2 record. They are also in sole possession of last place in the AFC West, a division they've won each of the past nine years.

The Chiefs will be in desperation mode as they travel to New York to face the Giants on Sunday Night Football in Week 3. While speaking to the media on Wednesday, Mahomes said he and his teammates still have a positive mindset despite their struggles, and are embracing the challenge of being in an early hole.

Chiefs are confident they will turn things around

"Being 0-2, there's more urgency than even last week, and I felt like we were very urgent last week," Mahomes said. "Definitely new territory as far as being 0-2, but we got the guys for it. We have the mindset of going out there and being even better. In my eyes, it's like, what an opportunity.

"What an opportunity to prove who we are, as the Kansas City Chiefs, coming back from 0-2 and trying to build up to win a big football game on Sunday Night Football, and try to get our season going in the right direction from there."

The Chiefs are in the midst of a brutal first six weeks of the season. It doesn't get any easier next week with a game versus the Baltimore Ravens, followed by matchups against the Jacksonville Jaguars and Detroit Lions.

However, if Kansas City can make it through that stretch with at least a couple of wins, the schedule lightens up a bit. In addition to that, wide receivers Xavier Worthy and Jalen Royals are getting close to returning from injury, and Rashee Rice's suspension ends after Week 6.

The Chiefs' path to getting to yet another Super Bowl could be unconventional in 2025. It doesn't seem likely they'll get the No. 1 seed in the AFC, and their streak of division titles could also come to an end. Despite that, they can still put it all together down the stretch and get hot entering playoff time. Winning a championship as a wild-card team could be another notch in the belt of K.C.'s dynasty.
