What are Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts' chances of winning MVP and OPOY?

The NFL MVP award finalists are Patrick Mahomes, Jalen Hurts, Justin Jefferson, Joe Burrow and Josh Allen, The Associated Press announced

Mahomes is the betting favorite to win MVP, Fox Sports reported. He led the Kansas City Chiefs to a 14-3 record and their fifth straight AFC Championship Game. He also led the league in passing yards (5,250) and touchdowns (41).

Hurts passed for 3,701 yards to go along with 760 rushing yards and 35 combined touchdowns. He led an offense that gained the second most yards in the league, per StatMuse

While the Eagles quarterback has a mountain to climb when it comes to beating Mahomes for MVP, he does have one advantage over the Chiefs star quarterback.

Mahomes started every game for the Chiefs this year. Meanwhile, Hurts was sidelined for two weeks with a sprained shoulder against the Cowboys on Christmas Eve and the Saints on New Years Eve. In those games, both losses, their offense looked like a shell of its former self without Hurts.

When Hurts returned from injury, he kickstarted the offense and beat the Giants in the regular season finale and the second round of the playoffs. Speaking of that playoff game, Hurts had three touchdowns (two passing, one rushing).

Even though Hurts is clearly the most valuable player on the Eagles offense, it's unlikely he beats out Mahomes for NFL MVP. However, it's entirely possible that he's crowned Offensive Player of the Year.

Depending how the voters cast their ballots, Hurts could become the first quarterback to win Offensive Player of the Year since Mahomes in 2018.

The Offensive Player of the Year finalists are Hurts, Mahomes and Justin Jefferson, per AP. One aspect of Hurts' game that separates him from the other finalists is his dual-threat ability. He's just as good of a passer as he is a runner. In fact, he was such a good runner that he was used in the Wildcat formation his rookie year before taking the starting role from beleaguered quarterback Carson Wentz.

Being nominated for awards is an exciting time for any player. But right now, Hurts' eyes are set on a different prize, a team prize, the NFC Championship and a potential Super Bowl victory.
