What Chiefs fans want most from the 2025 schedule (Thanksgiving in Dallas tops it)

The NFL is so grand that nearly most of the entire calendar is filled with anticipated events or key dates. Even at this point in the offseason, the league will create a new level of intrigue for its fans. This year's regular season schedule will be officially unveiled in full on Wednesday. Early announcements for select NFL games will also take place early this week.

With the schedule release, teams and fans are always excited to see when certain matchups take place. Who plays who on primetime, along with the many international games, is also an item that fans are anticipating heavily.

The Kansas City Chiefs are always going to be in some of the top television windows, given their dynastic run. And as usual, they will play a first-place schedule with many juicy matchups. While we cannot always get everything that we hope for, the Chiefs could benefit from certain twists and turns in their regular season schedule.

Here are three things that we want to see on the 2025 schedule for the Kansas City Chiefs.

1. Thanksgiving in Dallas

The Chiefs have played on many holidays or key dates in recent years. Christmas and Black Friday are just a pair of the select days that featured Kansas City recently. But out of all the holidays, the Chiefs have not been part of the Thanksgiving slate very often. Granted, non-conference opponents like Detroit and Dallas only pop up on the schedule less often than AFC teams. K.C. has only played once on Thanksgiving since 2000, however, which occurred in 2006.

Some Chiefs fans may be tired of them playing on holidays. Yet, a more traditional NFL-scheduled holiday like Thanksgiving would be a nice place to see Kansas City in action this year. With Kansas City going to Dallas this season, it could be a prime opportunity for the Chiefs to play on Thanksgiving for the first time in nearly 20 years. Let's see the league make it happen in Big D on this year's slate.

2. Routing road trips at ideal times

If you look at the list of opponents for the Chiefs in 2025, some teams that host them have severe climates at various points in the season. This may be an overblown talking point. However, avoiding traveling to one area when it is warmer at the beginning of the season could help prevent injuries. Plus, if you are able to avoid one of the coldest climates late in the regular season, you likely do not have to play in conditions that the host team relishes in.

Overall, it would be nicer to see the Chiefs travel to Jacksonville later in the year. They have already played in scorching heat there under Andy Reid early in the season. It would not hurt to see them take on the Jaguars down there in November or December.

Meanwhile, Kansas City is set to play in the northeast a couple of times, traveling to take on the Buffalo Bills and the New York Giants. If the Chiefs could play those teams before December, it would be a benefit from a climate perspective. Getting to play in those environments in calmer weather could help Kansas City avoid a sloppy outing.

3. Super Bowl rematch on primetime

The Kansas City Chiefs will get a shot at avenging last year's Super Bowl loss right away the following season. After having a disappointing end to last season in Super Bowl LIX, K.C. will get another shot at the Philadelphia Eagles this year. We would undoubtedly like to see that game under the lights on primetime. At the very least, maybe it is on the late-afternoon window with a mostly national audience.

There are multiple reasons for wanting to see the Chiefs and Eagles square off in primetime yet again. For one, they have mostly had tightly contested games against each other since Coach Reid came to Kansas City. Many of those meetings where Reid faced his old team came down to the final seconds.

Elsewhere, both teams will likely be contending for their respective number one seeds. It is a matchup that could determine just how far these squads go in the playoffs. If the loser cannot bounce back after this Super Bowl rematch, no matter when it falls on the calendar, it could lead to more pressure around that game in the regular season. Thus, playoff seeding for each conference is affected even more than fans may realize.
