Regardless of how outsiders feel about the matter, the New York Giants have made it clear since the opening night of the 2025 NFL Draft that veteran Russell Wilson will serve as the club's starting quarterback over promising rookie Jaxson Dart for New York's regular-season opener at the Washington Commanders on Sept. 7.
On Sunday, Giants wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson spoke with reporters about what he has learned while working with Wilson from the start of springtime practices through the end of preseason play.
"Just his attention to deal with everything," Robinson said, per Peter Botte of the New York Post. "Whenever it comes to routes, he wants to know that you’re gonna be in certain spots and he’s gonna let you know exactly what he needs out of you, which is definitely something I’ve felt like we needed as a whole team. So I’m always trying to make sure I’m doing the right thing, running to the ball, but it’s just like I said, the attention to detail, just the 'want to be great' is exactly what you get out of him."
Previous stories noted how Wilson has "had a very positive impact on" younger receivers such as Jalin Hyatt and second-year pro Malik Nabers. That said, Dart emerged as the Giants' top offensive star of the preseason as the team averaged 35.7 points per game over three August wins.
Dart completed 32-of-47 passes for 372 yards with three touchdowns and zero interceptions over his preseason outings. He also tallied 52 rushing yards and a score on six carries.
While Wilson is still the Giants' undisputed QB1 for Week 1, there now seems to be a chance that Dart will be New York's QB2 over Jameis Winston at Washington's Northwest Stadium.
According to ESPN stats, the Giants finished last season ranked 31st in the NFL with an average of 16.1 points per game. Meanwhile, Austin Mock of The Athletic recently predicted that the 2025 Giants will earn fewer than six total wins.
It sounds like Robinson and his teammates aren't too bothered by such forecasts ahead of Labor Day.
“I feel confident," Robinson added about the Giants' offense. "I think we worked really hard this summer, doing a lot of different things and getting a lot of people involved and moving a lot of different places. I think seeing it out there in these preseason games, you kind of saw, even if it wasn’t the starters, there was the standard that was set throughout camp."
As of Monday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook had the Commanders as six-point favorites against the Giants. If Wilson looks well past his prime against Washington, Giants fans clamoring for Dart to be named the club's starter will grow only louder ahead of Big Blue's Week 2 game at the Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 14.
