The New England Patriots and safety Jabrill Peppers have agreed to a three-year extension worth up to $30 million, per ESPN's Field Yates.
Head coach Jerod Mayo explained the decision-making behind the extension.
“He really embodies everything that we want on the field,” Mayo said in a news conference, per Pats Pulpit. “He’s very selfless, he’s out there flying around all the time, and it’s good to get that deal done."
Per Pro Football Focus metrics, Peppers was rated as the fifth-best safety in the NFL last year. In 15 games, he recorded two interceptions (tied for most on the team), one forced fumble (second-most) and 78 total tackles (fourth-most). One of his best plays in 2023 came on this hit on Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams:

The extension provides stability for the Patriots' current squad while also providing the framework to develop New England's future starters.
With fellow starting safety Kyle Dugger also inking an extension in April, Peppers' new deal locks down New England's starting safety duo for the next several seasons.
The deal additionally allows the Patriots to utilize Peppers — who is entering his eighth NFL season — as a leadership tool to develop the team's younger defensive players, such as safety Marte Mapu and cornerbacks Christian Gonzalez and Alex Austin.
