What Jets QB Aaron Rodgers could afford with bonus pay from NFL
Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

In one of the most hilarious pieces of news of the 2024 NFL offseason, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers received an extra $81.14 in performance-based pay, the lowest amount in the entire league.

For those unaware, the performance-based pay system is designed to reward players with lower salaries if they exceed expectations through playing time. Per the league, "players become eligible to receive a bonus distribution in any regular season in which they play at least one official down. In general, players with higher playtime percentages and lower salaries benefit most from the pool."

Rodgers had four official downs in 2023 and thus was eligible for the double-digit paycheck. Naturally, I had to put together a list of items he could afford with the extra money:

  1. Madden 25: Ya know... so he can play some football. Although I'd put it on a jar and wait until the release of EA Sports' new college football game set to release this year. Also, how wild is it that big-name video games now go for $70!?
  2. 400 campaign buttons plus supplies: Yeah, I googled it. In case Rodgers does want to run for VP as some reports have hinted at, he can kick things off with a couple of button making sets.
  3. COVID vaccine: In case he changes his mind, you never know.
  4. Podcast starter kit: You just know Rodgers will be a podcast host eventually. This money could be the Kickstarter to get things going.
  5. 24-pack of Bud Light (3-4): If you know, you know.
  6. 5 months of YouTube Premium: This is not an ad but man, it's really awesome to have no ads when going on those inevitable YouTube rabbit holes. And you know he doesn't miss the Pat McAfee Show.
  7. Joe Rogan Experience crewneck: It's always cool to support your favorite content creators.
  8. Nice apology basket for Schefter: Remember when Rodgers told Schefty to "lose his number"? Well, the NFL insider clearly remembers it otherwise I don't see why we would've put this news out there. It's time to let bygones be bygones and Michael Scott taught us the power of a gift basket.
  9. I know you're looking for it, but definitely not Ayahuasca. In writing this post, I learned such retreats are much more expensive.
