What Kyler Murray’s return to Cardinals mean for Week 9

GLENDALE – The Arizona Cardinals finally get a positive update on the injury front, with the return of starting quarterback Kyler Murray under center, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The two-time Pro Bowler has been sidelined for the past two weeks due to a foot injury suffered at home against the Tennessee Titans. Backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett took over the mantle and had an impressive showing, despite Arizona going 0-2 in his starts.

Murray returns to his home state in Texas, where he looked to continue his unbeaten streak against the Dallas Cowboys.

Murray set to return under center vs. Cowboys:

In his two starts vs. the Cowboys, Murray averaged 225.5 passing yards per game, four touchdowns, zero interceptions and 59 rushing yards per matchup. The 28-year-old hasn’t played in Dallas since 2022 with the Cardinals, when his team won 25-22 in AT&T Stadium.

It’s no surprise Murray would want to return at Jerry’s World on national television. Despite the franchise’s 2-5 record, this game will hold plenty of weight on Murray’s mind, never losing in Arlington.

The offensive struggles for Arizona with Murray under center is in a perfect spot to bounce back in Week 9. Dallas has the 31st worst passing defense in the NFL, allowing 258.6 passing yards per game, and the 31st scoring defense, allowing 31.3 points per game. The Cardinals haven’t scored a 30+ points in a game this season, but the motivation for Murray to return home and prove he deserves the starting job on national television will be the most motivated he has been since arriving to the franchise in 2019.
