What NFLPA report card says about Chargers' flavorless food program

The Los Angeles Chargers should consider hiring a new catering service.

On Wednesday, the NFL Players Association released its annual report card. The Chargers were 30th overall, and players bashed the team's food program. It ranked last in taste and freshness, and 55 percent of players felt there needed to be more room in the cafeteria.

The survey noted the Chargers' grades could improve when their new practice facility opens before the beginning of next season. They're stuck in a temporary site that's a poor fit for an NFL team. Still, L.A. has plenty of work to do off the field.

The NFLPA created the report card — which gathered 1,706 responses this year — to serve as a "free agency guide" for players. When a team has a higher grade, it makes it a more attractive destination.

The Chargers can't spend this offseason. Spotrac estimates they're $25.1M over the cap. The Miami Dolphins ($28.4M) and the Buffalo Bills ($41.2M) are the only teams with less cap space. Regardless, they should invest in their food program and other areas to become a more desirable landing spot.

The Chargers have an elite quarterback in Justin Herbert, but they've failed to reach the next level. Over the past four seasons, Los Angeles has had no postseason victories and only made one playoff appearance.

In 2023, the Chargers went 5-12 and finished last in the AFC West. They were 21st in the league in points scored (20.4) and 23rd in points allowed (23.4).

The Chargers recently hired Jim Harbaugh as head coach, which could help them turn it around. However, acquiring more stars in the future would make this an easier task, and it starts with the team improving its report card.
