What Panthers GM Dan Morgan Said About 2025 NFL Draft Situation

Dan Morgan is in a much better position entering the 2025 NFL Draft compared to the previous year.

After inheriting a roster with limited draft capital due to Scott Fitterer’s aggressive trade for Bryce Young in 2023, the first-year Panthers’ general manager now has the eighth overall pick and greater flexibility in shaping the team's future. However, despite some speculation about a potential move up the draft board, Morgan has made it clear that the Panthers are more likely to trade back rather than move up.

During a recent appearance on The Mac and Bone Show on WFNZ, Morgan was asked about Carolina’s draft strategy. He reaffirmed his confidence in holding the No. 8 pick but also acknowledged the possibility of trading down to accumulate more assets.

“I think we feel good about the position that we’re in at eight,” Morgan said. “Obviously, we don’t want to draft that high because that means you had a crap season. But yeah, it’s a good spot to be in. I think there will be a really good player there for us either way. We’re going to be prepared for every scenario. I don’t see us trading up. I do see the potential of us trading back and picking up more picks. That’s always a possibility but we’re going to play all the different scenarios and be ready when the time comes.”

Morgan’s statement suggests that the Panthers are open to maximizing their draft capital rather than packaging picks to move up. With several high-impact defensive players projected to be available in their range, Carolina could land a potential game-changer without giving up assets. One names that comes up often is Georgia's Jalon Walker.

The former Bulldogs defender stands out as an intriguing option. His ability to play both linebacker and edge rusher makes him a versatile weapon for a defense looking to regain its identity. If the Panthers stay at No. 8, they could be in position to add a player who can make an immediate impact.
