WOODLAND HILLS, Ca. Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua entered rehab earlier this year, according to his attorney — another chapter to his off-field saga.
Nacua, who has had a string of off-field incidents that have caused controversy, checked in to improve his overall behavior. Here's what we know and how this affects the Rams moving forward.
According to a statement from Nacua’s agent first given to the California Post, Nacua is at a recovery center and has been for some time.
"Rams WR Puka Nacua has been at a recovery center for his well being, his lawyer Levi McCathern confirmed to me," NFL Network’s Steve Whyche said. "Here is part of his statement. The story was first reported by the California Post....."He is committed to using this time constructively so that he can return in the best possible position – both personally and professionally – to continue contributing to his team and the game he loves. He will complete the program in time to fully participate in all of the Rams OTAs. Puka is also deeply grateful for the support he has received from his family, friends, coach [Sean] McVay, and teammates."
Barring any unexpected criminal charges stemming from these allegations or from any other aspects of Nacua's life, this changes nothing moving forward. This is a situation the Rams have known about for some time and all parties are proceeding one step at a time.
While this may postpone a looming record-setting extension for Nacua, the postponement will not be indefinate and if the Rams stict to their standard practices, Nacua will sign an extension before the start of the season.
He's a clear contributor, has never been suspended by the NFL, and the Rams just paid Alaric Jackson last season, and Jackson had a civil lawsuit filed against him for actions for which the NFL suspended him in 2024.
However, this is one of those moments where the buck stops here. If Nacua changes his patterns and keeps himself out of headlines for negative reasons, things will remain as they are. If Nacua has another issue, then we will be discussing a potential change from the status quo.
The Rams are continuing to back Nacua, especially as he continues to seek treatment, and barring any unexpected changes, Nacua will feature for the Rams this season, starting at OTAs.
