Waived, then Re-Signed

On Saturday, the Las Vegas Raiders waived rookie wide receiver Ramel Keyton , only to re-sign him just days later on September 30. The former undrafted free agent had shown promise during the preseason but was inactive for the Raiders’ first three games of the 2024 NFL season.

Preseason Standout: Keyton’s Moment Against the 49ers

Keyton, a second-string wide receiver, had made a strong case for a roster spot in the Raiders’ final preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers. He led the team in receiving yards, pulling in four catches for 76 yards. His performance in that game was a highlight, showcasing his potential to contribute in key moments.

Coach Pierce’s Praise and Decision to Waive

Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce praised Keyton after the game, saying, “He’s a very talented player, and I think he’s still trying to find his way in the pro game. Last night, we asked those guys to really step out and make it tough for us over the next 48 hours.”

Despite the praise, Keyton was waived after being inactive in the first three regular-season games. However, the Raiders quickly moved to bring him back, re-signing him on September 30.

Tennessee Roots: Keyton’s College Career

Keyton had an impressive college career at Tennessee, where he recorded a career-high 642 receiving yards and led the team with six touchdown receptions in his final season. He was signed by the Raiders immediately following the 2024 NFL Draft, and while his journey has had some ups and downs, his return to the team shows that his story with the Raiders isn’t over yet.
