The Green Bay Packers made an early-season statement with a 27–18 prime-time victory over the Washington Commanders. As the first team to 2-0 this season, Green Bay is setting the tone early for the rest of the NFL. Here are seven key takeaways from the win.
All statistical insights are provided by Stats Perform.
1. Jordan Love continues to protect the football
Love put together another poised performance in his second game of his third season as Green Bay’s starter, completing 19-of-31 passes for 292 yards, two touchdowns and no turnovers. He led two touchdown drives of over 90 yards in the first half: a 96-yard march capped by a passing touchdown to Romeo Doubs, and a 92-yard series finished by Josh Jacobs. Notably, Love hasn’t thrown an interception in his last nine starts, tying Aaron Rodgers for the second-longest streak in Packers history.
2. Tucker Kraft puts on career-best performance
Kraft delivered a breakout performance, reeling in six catches for 124 yards and a touchdown. His 124 yards were the most by a Packers tight end since Richard Rodgers totaled 146 against the Detroit Lions on December 3, 2015. Kraft is the only Green Bay pass-catcher this season to score a touchdown in each game.

3. Josh Jacobs makes Packers history
Jacobs led the ground attack with 84 rushing yards, including a two-yard touchdown, extending his streak to a franchise record 10 straight regular-season contests with a score. Including the playoffs, he stands at 11 straight games — tying him for the second-longest streak since the 2000s, behind only LaDainian Tomlinson (12).
4. Packers defensive line continues to shine
Green Bay’s defensive line — especially against the run — delivered one of its best performances in recent years. Through the first two games of the season, the Packers have surrendered just 97 rushing yards — the second-lowest total to open a season in franchise history, behind only the 2016 team's 78-yard mark. On Thursday, they held Washington to 51 rushing yards, the lowest total of the Dan Quinn–Jayden Daniels era.
Green Bay’s pass rush overwhelmed Daniels with 27 pressures — the most pressures he’s faced in his career. Leading the charge was Micah Parsons, who accounted for 10 of those disruptions — the most by a Packers defender since Preston Smith’s 13 pressures against the Chicago Bears on December 12, 2021.
5. Keisean Nixon is proving he can anchor the secondary
Nixon was a lockdown presence in coverage, recording five pass deflections — the most by a Packers player in a single game since Jaire Alexander also recorded five against the Los Angeles Rams on October 28, 2018. Nixon allowed just one reception for nine yards all game, anchoring a dominant effort by Green Bay’s secondary that held Daniels to a career-low 4.8 yards per attempt in a full game.

6. Jayden Reed diagnosed with a broken collarbone
On the opening drive, Reed appeared to secure a 39-yard touchdown reception before landing hard on his right shoulder. The play was wiped out by a holding penalty, and Reed was forced to leave the game. He was officially ruled with a broken collarbone and is expected to be out for six to eight weeks.
With Reed sidelined, Green Bay will lean on its depth at receiver, giving Malik Heath and rookies Savion Williams and Matthew Golden a chance to step up and contribute.
7. Special teams is still a concern
Brandon McManus connected on field goals from 56, 22 and 48 yards, but the Packers' special teams unit still showed signs of inconsistency. McManus missed a 48-yarder just before halftime, and shaky punt coverage allowed Washington to gain momentum late in the game.
In the punt return department, Green Bay failed to generate any momentum — largely due to the absence of Reed. Of Washington’s four punts, three were returned, but the Packers managed just one total yard.
With Reed out for approximately two months, the Packers must find a dependable replacement in the return game. Golden is expected to take over the role and will have an opportunity to prove himself as a steady presence on special teams.
