What Will George Pickens Make Of His Cowboys Chance?
Tommy Gilligan-Imagn Images

Dallas Cowboys receiver George Pickens will be part of an offense that, for the first time in his career, he won't be the focal point of.

Having been the No. 1 guy with the Pittsburgh Steelers over the past three seasons, totaling a combined 2,841 yards and 12 touchdowns, now George has CeeDee Lamb opposite him.

Oh, and let's not forget about the big quarterback upgrade, as well as Dak Prescott, who will be tasked with getting Pickens the ball.

On paper, it feels like George will be set up for success similar to what he had in Pittsburgh, possibly better, but Pickens is in a contract year and will want to put himself in the shop window of either Dallas or 31 other teams next offseason.

Granted, he does come with a reputation of being a fiery customer on the field, and for ESPN's Bill Barnwell, Pickens could go one of two ways in 2025.

"Pickens is moving from one of the league's least pass-happy offenses to one of its most," Barnwell writes. "Pickens is also going to get a massive upgrade at quarterback.  With Pickens in a contract year, he has every reason to be motivated in Dallas. Few players have a wider range of potential outcomes in 2025; he could be a top-15 wideout or end the season on another roster."

If things work out and George has what is considered a normal season for him with 900+ yards and a handful of touchdowns, a big extension will be coming his way either with the Cowboys or elsewhere.

That is Barnwell's top 15 idea.

Conversely, if his fiery personality and reported off-field issues with meetings continue, then who knows how things will play out?

Granted, at this early stage, that doesn't appear to be a worry with Brian Schottenheimer impressed with how Pickens has attacked the offseason both in the classroom and on the field.

If that continues through training camp, Pickens will begin the 2025 season with the confidence to prove to the NFL world that he deserves to be mentioned among the league's elite.
