What Would the 5th-Year Options for Trevor Lawrence and Travis Etienne Cost the Jaguars?
USA TODAY Sports

The Jacksonville Jaguars are one of a handful of teams that will have to decide on multiple fifth-year options this offseason, with Jacksonville having to make decisions on both Trevor Lawrence and Travis Etienne.

The Jaguars have openly talked about the idea of an early contract extension with Lawrence for the past two offseasons, while Etienne is currently slated to head for free agency after 2024.

If the Jaguars opt to pick up the fifth-year option for either Lawrence or Etienne by this year's May 2nd deadline, what would it cost? In a review of each pick by The 33rd Team, the figures are spelled out plainly: Lawrence would carry a $21,978,000 cost in 2025, while Etienne would come in at a cap hit of $5,955,000.

Lawrence finished the season completing 65.6% of his passes for 4,016 yards, 21 touchdowns and 14 interceptions, along with seven lost fumbles. Lawrence also missed his first career start as he dealt with four different injuries, with Lawrence seemingly having to limp to the finish of the season.

Lawrence completed 370 passes. He is the second quarterback in franchise history to record at least 300 completions in three consecutive seasons, and the only quarterback in franchise history to start his career with three seasons of at least 300 completions.

Lawrence recorded at least 20 completions in 14 games last season. His 14 games of 20 or more completions ranked third in the AFC. In 2023, Lawrence averaged 7.1 yards per pass attempt. He ranked fifth among quarterbacks in the AFC with at least 450 pass attempts.

Etienne finished the year with his second consecutive 1,000-yard season, rushing for 1,008 yards (3.8 yards per carry) and 11 touchdowns, while also catching 58 passes for 476 yards and a touchdown.

Etienne posted at least two rushing touchdowns in three straight games from Week 5 to Week 7. He became the first player in franchise history to record multiple rushing touchdowns in three consecutive games in a season

Etienne recorded 1,484 scrimmage yards. He joined RB Maurice Jones-Drew as the only Jaguars to reach 1,000 scrimmage yards in their first two active NFL seasons. Etienne is the third player in Jaguars history to record 1,300 scrimmage yards in consecutive seasons.
