When he played, Bruce Smith was not only one of the greatest edge rushers in NFL history but was one of the greatest players in the history of the Buffalo Bills.
Two defensive player of the year awards, 11 Pro Bowls, and a Hall of Fame bust in Canton shows how good Smith was, and how important he is to Bills Mafia.
The '90s Bills are considered some of the greatest teams to never win a ring.
It's something Smith doesn't want to see happen to the Josh Allen and Sean McDermott-led Bills that are currently 9-2 on the season, and coming off a key 30-21 win over the Chiefs last week.
“The poise, the calmness exhibited by Josh Allen in his post-game interview, in his demeanor, and the way he’s handling this whole process of being successful has been really refreshing to see,” Smith told TMZ Sports in a recent interview. “I think Sean [McDermott] is doing an outstanding job. I think the defensive line is playing extremely well.
"The takeaways that this defense has been able to compile over the course of the season thus far have really given us an advantage in terms of allowing Josh to get back out on the field and put points on the board, change field position, and do the things that are necessary to win a number of games.”
Smith knows what it is like to reach the pinnacle of the sport, but never be able to win a championship. Allen and the current Bills' roster know that somewhat with five straight seasons in the playoffs but no Super Bowl berths.
Could the 2024 squad be the one to finally end the drought? To Smith, it's certainly possible.
