Where Does Buccaneers Baker Mayfield Land on the CBS QB Rankings?

Baker Mayfield’s tenure with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is a prime example of the quote “change is as good as a holiday.” Since joining the team, the quarterback has been remarkably consistent, proving that a new environment can be just what someone needs to thrive.

Following a journeyman path from the Cleveland Browns to the Carolina Panthers and then the Los Angeles Rams, Baker Mayfield has found stability with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and his performance reflects it.

With back-to-back playoff appearances, two division titles, and two Pro Bowl selections under his belt, Mayfield’s career resurgence has been nothing short of remarkable. The question heading into 2025 is: can he keep the momentum going?

Recently, CBS Sports dropped their quarterback rankings, and Mayfield is just outside the Top-10.

Via CBS Sports,

“It wasn’t just the 41 touchdown passes that confirmed him as dangerous in 2024,” Via CBS Sports. “It was the mettle he brought to a lineup often affected by injuries. His scrappiness is infectious in Tampa.”

Over his two seasons with the Buccaneers, Mayfield has consistently played at a top-10 to top-15 level, making his ranking of 11 a fair assessment. Still, he undoubtedly has aspirations to climb the ranks even higher.

The Buccaneers are projected to win the NFC South for a fifth straight year, with a playoff appearance considered the baseline expectation for the 2025 season.

The lingering question is whether the Buccaneers can make a deep playoff run, which for many remains the last hurdle to fully buying into Baker Mayfield’s on-field performance.

The BR Rub

While we may be a bit bias, we see Mayfield as a Top-10 quarterback. Considering his stats, Mayfield has played at a high level over the past two seasons, ranking:

• Passing Yards: 2nd in the NFL (8,544 yards since 2023)
• Touchdowns: 1st in the NFL (69 touchdowns since 2023)
• Completion Percentage: 7th in the NFL (67.9% since 2023)
• Passer Rating: 7th in the NFL (100.7 since 2023)

Based on those four key stats Mayfield should be at least in the top-seven of the league. Given his performance we’d argue Mayfield is underrated. Some will question whether he can maintain his level of play with constant changes to the team.
